Painted between 1905 and 1910, Shooting the Rapids, Saguenay River captures a moment of raw tension and adventure on the wild waters of Quebec. The work, left unfinished after Homer’s death, is believed to depict his brother Charles gripping a canoe as it races through the rapids. The incomplete brushwork heightens the sense of danger and motion, offering a fitting final image from an artist who spent his life exploring the power and unpredictability of nature.
